Updating and stickying for the moment.
This is the forum where DICE people post:
http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/batt ... pany-2-pc/Connection stuff:The EA servers seem to be having capacity issues. Common problems:
Cannot connect to EA Online: retry a few times
Connection to server has been lost/No game server found/misc error messages connecting to server--these messages all usually mean the server is simply full. Retry or find different server
If you get repeatedly kicked from servers or get pbinit failure messages, go to
http://www.evenbalance.com, click on the support link at the top of the page and download and run pbsetup. You will need to add games to punkbuster. If you are running the game on Steam look at the path below to find the location of BFBC2.
To see pings on the server browser:
Go to the BFBC2Game.exe, right click properties, under compatibility choose run as admin.
If you are running off Steam the path is, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\battlefield bad company 2\BFBC2Game.exe"
Note this will still be flaky. Best bet is to read server descriptions to find something close to you.
Ports:
Should not need to open any ports. If you want to test it out, the port info is here:
http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/batt ... ports.htmlAdjusting settings to improve performance:You can play with some settings in the game itself. There is also a config file that you can make more changes. The config file is found under My Documents/BFBC2. The file you want is settings, not game settings.
Change these settings to in the config file to improve performance:
under [Sound] Quality = low
Bloom=false Do not want
HSAO=false Do not want
DxVersion=9 This one is important for load times and for overall video performance.
FOV=75 This is field of view. Default is pretty narrow. It is a vertical rather than horizontal measurement so 75 = 90* FOV on a widescreen monitor. Play with it but settings larger than 75 start to get pretty weird.
You can play with the graphical settings in game for shadows, AA, etc directly in the game. I have found turning shadows and effects to low helps a lot without making the game look bad. Play with having vsnych enabled or disabled. Some report that turning it off helps. You really shouldn't need to go lower than medium on textures and detail. There is an advanced setting for video settings in the game menu, look for it. Don't be afraid to mess with brightness and contrast as some maps make your eyes bleed at default brightness.
Life is much much better and the game plays nicely this way. If you have a sound card you leave the sound quality at high. I had a sound card that I forgot about and the game sounds pretty amazing. To see what effects your changes have on game fps, download and run fraps while playing.
